The Biophilic Institute was inspired by conversations during an artist fellowship. These conversations inspired a group of multidisciplinary professionals to found the institute in 2013 dedicated to integrating nature into modern urban development.

Based in the wellness-focused community of Serenbe in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, the nonprofit organization was created to combat environmental degradation, urban sprawl, and the growing social and physical isolation caused by modern consumerism.
